Kuwabara read auras, but Yuusuke was learning to read Kuwabara.
To anyone else, it might have looked like Kuwabara was always trying to pick a fight or invading personal space. To Yuusuke, however, there was a world of subtlety between a swat to the back of the head or a casual arm slung over his shoulder. He'd gotten good at telling the difference between action and intent. A slug to the head from the side might mean "I'm worried" while a rough hug might mean "I'm pissed."
Yuusuke was persistent. A slight smile might mean anger and a sharp grin might mean relief. Emotion leant Kuwabara's body language an untold number of dialects, each distinct from the next. An eyebrow quirked in disbelief with a jagged scowl and tense shoulders. A lopsided smile and broad hands held palm up. Lips curled in distaste and a finger jabbing roughly forward. Yuusuke was learning how to read them all.
One day Kuwabara looked at him with a lopsided smile and soft eyes and hands jammed in his pockets. Yuusuke was trying translate that when that lopsided smile meet his own speculating frown and one of those strong hands cupped his cheek. It never occurred to Yuusuke that in trying to read Kuwabara, maybe Kuwabara was trying to read him.

Dear Bleach Animation Studios:
I've been loosely following the recent manga chapters and the recent anime episodes and realize that one is about to fall behind the other. In the past, this has resulted in anime-only filler arcs being shown instead of pulling the current manga story arc out of Kubo's ass. This has resulted in two major filler arcs so far, mostly referred to as the Bount arc and the New Captain arc, along with a few smaller two or three episode arcs that have also appeared. The anime is rapidly approaching the manga and soon it will be time for a new arc.
In light of this, I propose that rather than introducing a slew of new anime-only characters that will likely never appear again or even mentioned, that the upcoming arc(s) be constructed to reveal more of the existing backstory of certain characters, or to flesh out the current stories of certain characters. Mr Kubo Tite has developed this rather distressing habit of creating somewhat interesting secondary characters that either have ties to major characters or ties amongst themselves and never really following through with them. This is an opportunity to take care of that. In fact, here are two concepts for possible filler arcs that I believe would be quite entertaining:
The second basic concept:
Both of these proposals should be good for at least ten episodes and could possibly be extended to twenty or more, depending on the number of battles that can be crammed in. I wish to note, however, that extending episodes with the method used in the Bount Arc, for example with long, monotonous dialog and episode long flashbacks, may only serve to alienate your audience and there's nothing wrong with keeping it short and simple if you can't flesh it out with plot and proper action.
In addition, there are numerous unresolved plot lines or minor plot 'threads' that could be expanded to fill entire one or two part episodes, such as Renji's flashback episode to his and Rukia's childhood in the Rukongai. It would be highly recommended to touch upon these with close feedback from Mr Kubo Tite, as this could afford him the oppurtunity to delve further into backstories that he may or may not have an oppurtunity to address in the manga in the near future. These are listed in no particular order:
PS: Yes, I am a Ganju fangirl as well as of the whole messed up family.

The Secret Forces are on a mission to discover just who's capturing Hollows alive and for what purpose, fearing that Aizen may be up to experiments yet again. What they discover is instead along distant ocean shores where ships are carrying an incredibly dangerous cargo and an underground gambling ring is forcing innocents and criminals alike to battle Hollows in a desperate bid for survival. A seal is placed upon all combatants to lock away any spiritual powers or zanpakuto, forcing them to rely on brute strength and fierce cunning to stay alive while spectators place bets on who will perish and who will emerge victorious. A covert group is sent to infiltrate both the betting ring and the fighters to discover who is behind it all and what goal they could possibly have. Along the way, the shinigami will have to learn who they can trust in an increasingly lethal game and just how desperate some people become to survive in the Rukongai.
BONUSES: NINJAS, PIRATES, small scale epic battles, Hollows that can actually be scary, shirtless men, more NINJAS, and Ganju showing the shinigami how to brawl RUKONGAI style.
DRAWBACKS: None. There are NINJAS and PIRATES, so stfu.

The second basic concept:
The Captains and Vice-Captains are scattered across Heuco Mundo and the false Karakura Town in a fierce battle against Aizen. With her strongest fighters absent, the greatest threat to the Seireitei now might come from those the shinigami were sworn to protect. Tensions in the Rukongai run hot and vicious in the wake of Aizen's betrayal and even defeated, Kariya's words continue to poison and twist the ears and sympathies of many Rukongai citizens. With the strongest of the shinigami absent, who will protect the people of the Soul Society from the Hollows and Aizen's machinations? And who will protect them from themselves? An army starts to amass on either side of the Seiretei's walls, split between those in the Rukongai who wish to overthrow the Court Guards, and those within the Seireitei who wish to extend the control of those same Guards far past Yamamoto's original intent. It's a race against time for a small band with loyalties to both sides to fight and keep the peace and protect Seireitei and Rukongai alike from the threat that is emerging from the sleeping Karakura Town that could consume them all.
BONUSES: Secondary characters can shine, reveal more of what actually happens in the Rukongai and the social structure, logical followup to the mess that was the Bount arc, room for backstories, and more Ganju showing the shinigami how to brawl RUKONGAI style.
DRAWBACKS: Captains and Vice-Captains missing is sort of a big deal and Kubo might actually have something planned for that.

These are listed in no particular order:
- Kenpachi and the first Yachiro and why that name was bestowed with such reverance upon the second.
- The Shiba clan. Specifically, what lead to the fall of the family from full noble status, Byakuya Kuchiki's past interactions with Kaien Shiba, Kukaku's use of a powerful kido spell, the origin of Kukaku's connection to former shinigami Yoruichi and Urahara, the form of kido or 'spells' that Kukaku and Ganju both use, why Ukitake didn't tell Kukaku and Ganju the truth himself and instead let the live however many decades hating the shinigami and believing Kaien as murdered in cold blood, and a possible fourth Shiba (There's a pattern to the names and each roughly translates as: Kaien Shiba - "Swallow of the Ocean," Kukaku Shiba - "Crane of the Sky," and Ganju Shiba - "Eagle of the Rock." Both Kaien and Ganju's names match their elemental ability, Kaien having a water-based zanpakuto and Ganju using some form of earth-based kido/spell. A bird of fire is still missing and no, Kaien's wife doesn't fit the pattern. More name information can be found here).
- Spirit ribbons. Just... spirit ribbons. Oh, and the Gateway to Hell while we're at it. Listed mostly because while Kubo still might toss it back in when the current arc wraps up, it's been 200+ chapters.
- The first shinigami that gave their powers to a human. If they made a law against it, either it had to have happened or something close enough to make them think, "Okay, um, yeah, maybe we should make this illegal guys?"
PS: Yes, I am a Ganju fangirl as well as of the whole messed up family.

Okay. As of now I am mostly officially signed up to take EMT classes. That's really the sort of thing that one requires deliberation on, even if to me it feels like I signed up on a whim. They were offering the classes, I had leftover monies from my tax return, why not?
...
Maybe not quite a whim, maybe just something I tell myself so I don't think too much about the real reason or think too much about what such a step might mean for me.
My dad was an EMT for about 15 years and a CNA for part of that. I only signed up to be an CNA (now SRNA, make up your alphabet soup minds, people) because I needed some extra cash over the holidays and didn't really expect to be there that long. Didn't expect to be where I am now, with a job I'm actually kinda proud of, even if it involves wiping a lot of butts at three in the morning.
But this... There's no way this wouldn't have a connection to my dad.
He had a heart attack and died in the back of my car. My parents had this enormous gas guzzler so they were borrowing mine because it's lighter on gas. I told dad I loved him and stumbled back upstairs to go back to sleep. Sister's boyfriend came knocking in the door less than five minutes later and ten minutes after that we were at the hospital and fifteen minutes after that, one of the EMTs called to the scene to help get my dad out of the car said, "It's done." This was after the combined efforts of three nurse all huddled and swapping out in the back of my tiny car.
"It's done."
That's the real reason I want to take these classes and pass them and do this right. I remember. I looked at her and said, "No, it's not done. It's not done." Not pleading or begging, still in a state of disconnected disbelief ("We're gonna have to go to the hospital, aren't we? They'll have to reschedule his appointments for sometime next week.") when I told her that. She's the one teaching my class.
Someday, I want to look at her or someone else when they say, "It's done" and tell them, "No, it's not done" and know it's true.
It's not done. Not by a long shot.

Hey! So, anyone on my flist interested in Bleach? Just curious, is all. XD;;
Sorry for the... what? Month long absence? Christ.
My mom's stay with me was surprisingly stress-free and almost pleasant. I was awake or at work at night and slept during the day, so it added up to only a few hours of the day we were awake to interact with one another. Frankly, I think that helped. She had to use internet most of the evening to get her business caught up, but did cook a few meals and washed all the dishes while she was here. The BBQ ribs were good. :3 So that actually worked out rather well. The porn was hidden in the usual places along with the occasional note that said, "If you tell me how you found this, I'll tell you why I have it." No questions were brought up. XD;;
So that was all hurray and shit and stuff moved around from one place to another and their old landlord was a douche who evicted them, but as of now, they have a new place to live, even though Mom plans on getting an apartment as soon as Sister gets off her ass and gets a job and learns she doesn't have to babysit Mom all the time.
And then Fritz died.
Sorta. Stupid computer error and most of my shit on it gone, except for ancient files I had on CDs and fics/note things. Laptop was fixed and OS put back on and new files on it and then internet didn't work. So a few days later and some very annoyed tech support people from overseas and I have computer with files and internet working again.
And then I caught my mp3 player in my car door. :/
Past few weeks have been kind... yeah. [headdesk]
Also! Tan, Uso, and Becca, I'm redoing your prompt fic thingies! They'll be up in a couple days!
Sorry guys. [hides]

Magus is burning alive.
Fever kisses his brow and caressed his shivering limbs. His muscles quiver under thick heat and his skin is slick with sweat. Every breath scours his lungs dry. His entire world is reduced to this, to the fire in his blood and the darkness that devours his vision. Fire in his veins, dull and persistent, clinging to him in a lover's embrace.
But... cool inhuman hands. Moist against his parched flesh. Something cold and wet slithering along the edges of his wound, pouring blissful numbness into the source of his infection. A different sort of shiver, stark and almost painful in its sudden relief. He arches into it, back curving, hands grasping at empty air.
The fever threatens to consume him, but this... This threatens to drown him.
Shadows in his sight, basic forms that coalesce into Frog's rough form crouched over him. Magus closed his eyes again. Cool hands on his face now, stroking away the last of the fever. Frog's tongue, thick and cold and wet, wrapped loosely around his throat. Shivering, shaking. Both of them. Magus reaches and his hands slip and fumble at armor not his own.
He can't push Frog away.

EDIT: Okay, this thingy is open for whoever wants to join. These are very short drabbles, three sentences exact, but however long one can stretch a sentence out. Post a request and I'll write a short drabble back, but be prepared to meet my own request! Mwahaha. Or something. Feel free to respond to other requests, too.

Soo... today is my birthday. Yeah. 25 isn't exactly what I expected it to be, but all things considered, it could be worse. I've taken CNA classes and am working as a Nurse's Aid at the local nursing home/hospital. I didn't know how much I'd been worrying about the economy and my hours at the restaurant until I didn't have to worry about it so much. :/
I haven't written much of anything in the past few months, but I do feel like my head is loosening up a bit. I've got ideas, I just need to sit down and write them. I've been thinking of a few Danny Phantom fics I need to revist and finally finish, although most of the mental steam has gone towards original stuffs. Ehehe, admittedly, original stuff based on the fanish stuff, but it's a start. XD;;
All in all, looking back, it's not where I expected to be, but maybe it's not a bad place to be heading towards.

Okay, FC is not dead, just generally feeling like room-temperature shit. Cats knocked out my modem's plug last time I was online and it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out what the fuck was going on. I've been about passed out sleeping the rest of the time. :/
A couple weeks ago, almost a month, I had two... episodes? thingies? vision-go-bye-byes. Doctor said it was mostly harmless and family history backed up my own personal theory (that doc confirmed) that they were just migraine auras. Meaning, I got a couple of the symptoms of big badass migraines, but without the ballbusting headache part. What I got were gray fuzzy spots gnawing away at my peripheral vision until I could barely see anything that wasn't directly in front of me followed by "Wee, where's the merry go round?" type nausea every time I turned my head.
Doc put me on asprin and something called propo-whatsit. Eh, it's on the bottle. But it's supposed to loosen up blood vessels and such so nothing constricts to the point of giving me those lovely flashing spots or nasty tunnel vision. So far, so good. It took about a week after actually getting the medicine for me to start taking it, but I've been taking regularly for about a week now. No episodes or any of great grandmother's blind spots, but it's left me feeling very, very tired. I mean, I have been sleeping like a freaking rock for the past few nights upwards of 10+ hours, averaging damned close to 12 or 13. That's not good. Will be checking with doctor, of course. Even for me, sleeping that damned long and being that damned tired so long isn't normal.
Also, some good friends got me drunk for the first time last Saturday. Apparently, I am a very polite drunk. And I can't blame the Smirnoffs for the bad karaoke; I do that sober. XD;;

Looking for a few good book recommendations!
I found a preview of a really cool comic on Scans_Daily that was part of a Top Cow contest where people voted online for which comic out of six that they wanted to get an actual series. One of those that sadly didn't make it was a little number called "Urban Myths." The whole thing is just what is says on the tin: urban myths. Roman and Greek mythology plopped right down in the big city with a good heaping dollop of detective noir.
Quickie Scans_Daily preview here.
Nice full and legal issue here, on Newsarama.
And... it totally didn't win.
So are there any comics, manga, novels, cartoons, whatever that fall into a similar genre? Mercede Lackey's SERRAted Edge novels edge kinda close, but are more of a "Humanity must never know!" urban fantasy. The Hellboy comic mythos is even closer, but falls short of the whole, "Crap, the naiad upstairs is getting waterspots on the ceiling again," that "Urban Myths" seemed ready to set up.
Seriously. Up for anything kinda close to "Urban Myths" genre-wise.
Also, for extra brownie points, paranormal romance novel recommendations that don't focus on some permutation of vampires or werewolves. Werecat... thingies... count as werewolf permutations. All the freaking mythology to work with and people keep coming back to variations on vampires and werewolves!

Fic: "Mermaid Tails"
Notes: One Piece, slash Luffy/Usopp
There was water and he was moving through it and not drowning. Luffy was pretty sure that counted as swimming, even though he hadn't dreamed of swimming for a very long time. Everything was warm and strong hands were holding him close to a smooth chest and soft lips teased a smile near his ears and it was rather like getting rescued by a school of amorous fish. Through the water and against the current and hands and chest and lips all came together into a sniper that was smiling a curious, gentle smile and flicking smooth gray fins behind him.
Luffy was fairly certain he was dreaming. After all, everyone knew that mermaids had fish tails, not dolphin tails. He wondered for a moment if Usopp knew that. There was a troublesome moment when he needed to breath, but Usopp just smiled that same curious, gentle smile again and pressed his mouth to Luffy's and breathed for him. One kiss and another and another, each one just another breath of the first. It was easier to just float in the dream currents than to question where his clothes went. And easier to hold onto Usopp. Bubbles trailed along his ribs and fluffed his hair. Luffy twined around Usopp, arms and legs twisting and clinging with boneless ease around Usopp's torso and tail. Like seaweed, like a second skin, like he was just trying to be dissolved and breathed in and part of Usopp forever.
Too bad forever was only as long as sleep.
Luffy tried to scrub the sleep from his eyes.
Usopp waved a good morning (or good afternoon?) on the other side of the deck.
"Mmmehh... Usopp, how well do you swim?"
